Harvie Lee Wilhoit, 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday evening July 6th, 2022, at Hospice of Randolph. He was born May 12th, 1930 in Asheboro, the son of Delma Monroe and Elizabeth Cornelia Smith Wilhoit.
He attended Guilford High School and later served in the Korean War. Harvie would then marry Ruby and settle in Greensboro. They would have been married 65 years this October. Harvie worked as a machinist for over 40 years with Newman & Whitney Machine Co. in Greensboro.
Harvie never met a stranger. He was genuinely interested in people and was passionate about sharing his love for Jesus with everyone he met. Harvie always had literature in his shirt pocket that he would randomly hand out to anyone that crossed his path. It was his ministry to make as many people as possible aware of God’s love and His way of salvation. In addition to serving as a deacon at Shannon Hills Chapel, Harvie enjoyed teaching 3rd graders in Sunday school and served as a camp counselor at Mountain Top Youth Camp.
Harvie was an athlete and avid sports fan. As a child he enjoyed playing baseball with his siblings and later played organized baseball. As a fan Harvie enjoyed following UNC basketball and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed being outdoors and for many years kept a beautiful garden. He had a very silly sense of humor and loved singing and making people laugh. Harvie had a special place in his heart for children and nothing made his eyes light up more than when he was visited by his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Harvie was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman Wilhoit, Eldon Wilhoit, Harold “Babe” Wilhoit and his sisters Louise W. Jones and Doris Springs.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Ruby, are his son, Robert “Bobby” Wilhoit, daughter, Vicki Wilhoit Williford and her husband Dr. James Scott Williford, grandchildren, Robert Scott Williford, Jonathan Lee Williford, Zoe Grace Wilhoit, Ryan Christian Wilhoit and one brother, Clifford “Bull” Wilhoit.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, July 15th.
