Hazel M. Johnson, 102, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Camden Health & Rehabilitation in Greensboro where she was a resident since 2013. A prayer was answered when she passed away peacefully in her sleep.
She was born May 21, 1920 in Iredell County, NC to John Franklin and Edna Gabriel McGee. Hazel married Samuel Franklin Johnson on November 1, 1941 and he precedes her in death. In addition to her parents and spouse, Hazel was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Mahala, Carolyn Isenhour and Hilda Gray Horn; brother, Herman McGee and infant grandson, Craig Stewart Johnson.
Hazel is survived by her children, Thomas Ashley Johnson (Deb) and Marsha Ellen Hopkins; grandchildren, Lara Bibey, Virginia Johnson, Michelle Helscher (Cannon) and Scott Johnson (Suzie); great grandchildren, Brandon Bibey, Avery Johnson, Addison Johnson, Lucy Lee Helscher and Charles Cannon Helscher; and five nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to thank everyone at Camden Health & Rehabilitation for their love and support provided for our mother. During the nine years, there were many staff, nurses, doctors and CNA’s who worked with Ms. Hazel. To those of you who provided that bit of “extra” care, compassion and love (you know who you are!), we are so very grateful! Thank you!!
A graveside service will be at 2 PM, Friday, July 15 at Westminster Gardens Cemetery in Greensboro. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to West Market Street United Methodist Church, American Red Cross or Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
