Hazel Marie Younger passed away on Saturday April 4, 2026, at Bellaire Assisted Living & Memory Care in Harrisonburg, VA surrounded by family. She was born November 18, 1932, in Pleasant Garden, NC to the late Raymond E Osborne and Clie T Osborne. She was a graduate of the High Point Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her license as a Registered Nurse (RN). She was a member of the Nursing staff at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, NC. She was happily married to William O Younger Jr for 58 years until his death. She was a devoted mother to Geoffrey and accepted Cher, Geoffrey’s wife, as her own daughter. She loved being Nana to Abby and Joe (her grandchildren). She was a long-time member of Lawndale Baptist Church who faithfully taught in the Children’s ministry every Sunday for more than 40 years.
Hazel demonstrated what Christianity looks like in a person. When people mistreated her, she forgave them. When they needed food, she fed them. When they needed to be heard, she listened to them. When they needed help, she counseled them. When their heart was merry, she laughed with them and when sad, she consoled them. When they were sick, she cared for them. She gave out the Gospel both in word and deed and loved her neighbors as herself.
Hazel had a big heart and loved people. She was genuinely kind, thoughtful, approachable, and those around her felt safe. She loved others even when they were unlovable. Her eyes were filled with light seeking out how to meet the needs of others. Always laughing, her joy was contagious. It was deep seated and long lasting, a fruit of the spirit as it did not come and go with life’s circumstances. While in her later years, health challenges slowed her step and dimmed her eyesight, but it did not quench her joyful spirit.
She was a beautiful person inside and out. This is only a glimpse of who she really was while here on earth. She will be sorely missed, but we look forward to seeing her again. 1 Thess. 4:13-18.
Hazel is survived by her son Geoffrey Younger, his wife Cher of Port Republic, VA; two grandchildren Abigail and Joseph, her sister Inez Paschal and husband Ron, and a large caring family of nieces, nephews and their children. A graveside service will be held on Saturday April 25, 2026, at 11 am in Guilford Memorial Park with Dr. Curt Dean officiating. Visitation will be held prior to service from 9:30 am - 10:30 am, Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407.
