Helen Sydnor White Stephens

Helen Sydnor White Stephens passed away on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025. Helen was born April 25th, 1936 in Lexington, Kentucky to the Late John Wesley White Jr. and the late Helen Jones White. She graduated from Dayton Beach High School in 1953 and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 1958 with a masters in English. She married William Mac Stephens in 1959.

Helen taught elementary school in Tucson, Arizona while her husband completed service in the US Air Force at Davis-Monthan. After living briefly in Houston, Texas the family moved to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1966 where Helen worked as a substitute teacher for the Greensboro City School System for a number of years before becoming a full time homemaker. She attended services at Irving Park Methodist Church. Helen was a life long member of the DAR and loved oil painting and playing piano.

Helen is survived by her sons William Wesley Stephens (Mary-Beth) of Lynchburg Virginia, Robert Mark Stephens (Dottie) of Greensboro and three grandchildren, Ellie, Mac and Ashley. She was preceded in death by her husband William Mac Stephens and brother John Wesley White III.

A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, March 18th, 2025,11:00 am at Mountain Park Cemetery in North Wilkesboro NC.
