Helen C. Wilson, 89, of Greensboro, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025. She was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on July 23, 1936, the only child born to William K. Jones and Viola Louise Preston Jones. She graduated from Greensboro High School and attended GTCC.
Helen was the co-owner and operator of the Tick Tock Antique & Beauty Shop (1970-1977), a charming store known for its expert antiques, collectable dolls, antique clocks, offering sales, repairs and restoration that delighted enthusiasts from all around the surrounding areas. Her passion for these unique crafts and collectables brought joy to the community and created a welcoming space for collectors and neighbors alike. Helen and her late husband, Thomas R. Wilson, Sr., loved exploring small towns across the United States and Canada, searching for rare vintage clocks, old furniture pieces and other unique treasures. Their journeys were filled with stories of discovering hidden gems in dusty antique shops, sharing laughter and building cherished memories together. Not only did she co-operate the shop but also ran the beauty shop where she styled hair for many ladies and gentlemen. From 1965-1970 she managed the Wagon Wheel Day Nursery, where she cared for up to ten babies and toddlers at a time. Helen created a warm and nurturing environment that emphasized early childhood development through interactive play, story-time and music. She personally organized daily activities, fostered creativity and social skills, building strong, trusting relationships with families throughout the community. Her dedication to the children’s growth and happiness made the nursery a beloved space for parents and a safe haven for the little ones she nurtured and cared for. Helen also worked as a School Guard for the Greensboro Police Department from 1962-1965. She fondly remembered how the firemen and policemen would bring her ice cream cones with lots of scoops. Helen truly enjoyed that job as well and giving back to her community. In addition to caring for children, she loved taking care of animals. She would feed the stray cats in the community and donated to animal shelters. Her kindness made the stray cats feel safe and her generosity helped many animals find loving homes. For two years, Helen dedicated her time to volunteering at the Greensboro Urban Ministries, where she served meals to families in need of support from the local community.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Thomas R. Wilson, Jr. of Pleasant Garden, NC; her daughter, Tammie N. Wilson of Raleigh, NC; and her fur grandbabies. She was her children's biggest cheerleader and shared their achievements with everyone she met. Helen was a loving and devoted soul who has now been reunited with all her loved ones who went on before her as well as all the beloved pets and fur babies that she so loved and cherished.
We love you, Mom, and will miss you terribly. Your kindness and laughter brightened our days, and your gentle spirit touched every life you met. We look forward to being reunited with you again on the other side. Until we meet again, rest in peace.
