Ida Pearl Brame, 91, of Greensboro, NC passed away on August 30, 2025.
She was born in Lake City, SC in 1934 to Courtney Matthews and Emma “Ruth” Floyd Matthews, the eldest of four siblings. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, James Matthews (brother) and Wayne Brame (husband). She is survived by Debbie Brame Lumpkins (daughter), Kevin and Hannah Lumpkins (grandson and his wife), Kaitlin Lumpkins (granddaughter), Belvia Matthews Wilkins (sister) and Emily Matthews (sister-in-law).
Pearl was an accomplished businesswoman in life. As a young mother in her mid-twenties, she became the youngest supervisor at a sewing plant that specialized in children’s clothing. Later, she would move on to serve as Plant Manager for Jeanette Maternities and as an officer for the American Business Woman’s Association. Eventually, she was Co-Owner and Production Manager of her own sewing plant, Anne Marie Clothing.
Through all of this, she was never too busy to sew hand-made clothes for her daughter, Debbie, including her wedding dress, and to create costumes and clothing for her grandchildren. In addition to sewing, Pearl’s hobbies included gardening, reading, and spending time with her friends by the lake. She had a special fondness for small dogs, and through her life cared for and loved many miniature poodles and one yorkie.
Pearl was a former member of Florida Street Baptist Church, and family holidays were very important to her. She proudly cooked for every Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving she could, making her famous, from-scratch pumpkin pies.
The Celebration of Life Service for Pearl is September 14 at Christ United Methodist Church of Greensboro, in the chapel, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Hospice Home Program of AuthoraCare Collective, 2504 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405 or to Christ United Methodist Church, 410 Holden Road, Greensboro, NC 27410.
