Chris was born in Greensboro, NC on August 16, 1968, to Herman Dillard and June Knight Blackwell. The youngest of three siblings, Chris graduated from Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro in 1986. He was the quiet, easygoing member of the family. His hobbies included cars, his dogs, and doting on his nieces and nephews.
Chris’ fun-loving, gentle soul and his steadfast love have been an indispensable part of our family. His loss leaves a void that will never be filled. His compassion and generosity of spirit allowed him to embrace several additional “families” in his life, who loved and embraced him in return. His “work family” at Beeson Hardware in High Point, where he worked for over two decades in sales and purchasing, was near and dear to his heart. And his “care team” at the Hayworth Cancer Center, led by Dr. Jason Huff, became more than caregivers to him - they became friends. Words will never express his gratitude and ours for their compassion and care for Chris in these last 2 1/2 years.
Chris was preceded in death by his father Dillard in 2016 and mother June in 2018. He is survived by his siblings: sister Myrene Guffey and husband John of Jamestown, NC; and brother Rev. David Blackwell and wife Beth of Florence, MT. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews and their families: Caitlin Guffey Smith, husband Trevor and daughter Isabella of Siler City, NC; Aaron Blackwell, wife Sara, and sons Nick and Mason of Littleton, CO; Ashley Guffey Massey and husband Travis of Jamestown, NC; Jacob Blackwell and wife Kaylee of Florence, MT; Virginia Blackwell Mahn, husband Dustin and children Teddy and Rosie of Florence, MT; and Aimee Blackwell of Florence, MT. He is also survived by his deeply-loved aunt Ann Knight Lyons of Eden, NC; cousin Neil Shelton, his wife Jennifer and sons Tyler and Taylor and their families of Eden, NC.
A memorial service remembering Chris will be held at Northside Baptist Church, Greensboro NC, on Saturday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m., Pastor Steve Goode officiating. A private family interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the High Point Regional Heath Foundation Loveline Program, P.O. Box HP-5, High Point, NC 27261-9984.
