

James was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was active in his church and community; he served as deacon and trustee and served as class President, Secretary and Treasurer for the Hayden Rackley Sunday School Class. He helped build the baptismal pool. He proudly served in the 26th Infantry as a squad leader in the US Army and a member of American Legion Post 53.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hubert Carter Sr. and Carrie Brame Carter; brother John Walter Carter; sisters, Carrie Elizabeth Snyder and Louise Smith. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Frances James Carter; two sons, Kenneth and wife Rhonda of Greensboro, NC, Dennis and wife Kimberly of New York, NY; two grandchildren, Candice Davis of Greensboro and Colin Carter of New York, NY; two great grandchildren, Cameron Davis and Grayson Davis of Greensboro, NC; two brothers, Charles Carter and Jerry Wayne Carter of Reidsville, NC; two sisters, Edna Earl Stone and husband James of Reidsville, NC, and Nona Brooks of Greensboro, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 2:00 pm at Immanuel Baptist Church, 2432 W. Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC with the Reverend Russell Reaves officiating, also Dr. Jack Benzenhafer and Mr. Otis Marlowe. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. Members of his Sunday School class will be honorary pallbearers.
