my thoughts with the family in remembrance of Dear Jim

Jim and I met some 40 years ago when I was a medical resident. I learned much from him then and over the ensuing years. His care and dedication to his patients was exemplary. He also often attended to the needs of others on the medical team. Yet what really made him stand out was his sense of humor- punny, irreverent, at times self-deprecating but never biting or unkind.
We have worked closely together on the electronic medical records project at Eagle for the past 13 years, attending  innumerable meetings together at Eagle offices (and sometimes remotely even before the pandemic; Jim joined a few meetings from Acapulco  in his bathing suit!) and travelling together to National meetings. Often I would run into Jim and Jo-Ann at an EMF concert.
We have sparred with puns, brainstormed the IT issues at work, broken bread together, negotiated with vendors, consoled stressed-out team members and celebrated their milestones.
So many memories, all of which confirm my impressions of Jim: brilliant, caring, devoted, funny, humble, diligent, detail-oriented and multifaceted.
As much as he will be missed at work and in the Greensboro medical community, my tears at the service yesterday were over the loss Jo-Ann and the rest of Jim's family are facing. I can only imagine the shock and grief being felt. May this give way over time to fond memories of the happiness he brought everyone during his life!

It was a great shock and great loss.  I knew Jim since I came to Greensboro in 2001- starting my practice with him in Tammenbaum,  Jim has been my role model and taught great deal of practice Art of medicine and  best of Bed side manners 
His selfless nature to help at any time of day and night  is  something of great admiration 
Will miss his witty joke and dedication 
He has left a void in me and our practice and Greensboro medical community at large

I have had a wonderful 35+ year medical career and life in Greensboro because of Jim and the other doctors that were at Tannenbaum Internal Medicine when I arrived in 1986. They, and especially he, welcomed me and my family and brought me on board to a wonderful practice full of great doctors who cared for their patients, their staff, and one another. Over these subsequent years, he gave me sage advice not only about patients but also about living as a doctor, a husband, and a father. Early on, he encouraged me to take the time for a 2-week family vacation every year. That truly changed my life and the life of my family. In my mid-career, he warned me that I would try to take on too much, as he had, and he encouraged me to care for myself. And this was Jim Weissman: whether with a patient or a colleague or a friend, Jim had the ability to speak words of caring, healing, and wisdom that had an impact far beyond the mere words themselves. He had a great sense of humor, and it was a rare meeting in which we did not laugh out loud at something Jim said. Goodness, he has left us too soon, and I will miss him greatly. 


Dr Weissman will always hold a special place in my heart. When I moved to Greensboro in 1986 and was fortunate to have worked for and with him in a variety of roles until I left Eagle in 2013. He was my “go to” at Tannenbaum for all computer and other technical issues  regardless of his patient load on any given day. Staff loved him as did his patients. We had a special bond because of his love of music as I had a voice performance degree in college. He told me once that he was glad to know someone who had a “BM” degree (actually BMusic but close enough). 
It was an honor to know him and he will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. 

Jim was instrumental in my medical education, choosing fellowship training, and a Mentor in how to remain patient centered. Jim was an amazing, compassionate physician and never wavered in his pursuit of medical information. He was a tireless educator and always demonstrated patience when helping others understand a medical concept.  He was an exceptional partner, wonderful consultant, as well as an understanding friend. His passing has created a gaping hole in our medical community. He will be greatly missed.
