
Jane Scales Tucker Pullen of Greensboro, NC, and formerly of Raleigh, NC, dearly beloved wife, sister, aunt, and great aunt, peacefully died in the evening of December 20, 2018. She was born to Louisa Harris Tucker and Russell Holt Tucker, Junior, of Danville, Virginia. After attending Stratford Hall and George Washington High School, Jane attended Converse College, her mother’s alma mater.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her aunt, Jane Harris Armfield, and her aunt and uncle Emily Harris Preyer and L. Richardson Preyer.
Jane Met Lucius Wilson Pullen of Raleigh, NC, in 1972. They married in 1973 and celebrated 45 year of joyful marriage. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister Victoria Tucker Borden and husband Robert Hanes Borden; Jane is also survived by her three nieces and six grandnieces and nephews with whom she shared a mutual adoration; Louisa Borden Pons and her husband Marc Franklin Gaddy Pons, and their sons Franklin and Borden and their daughter Victoria; Tucker Borden Andrews and her husband Johnathan Wesley Andrews, and their sons Wes and Hanes; Jane Scales Borden and her husband Nathaniel Doyle Stogdill and their daughter Louisa.
Jane is survived by a host of cousins who were as siblings to her and always an important part of her life. Additionally Jane us survived by Stuart Wilson Pullen and his wife Katherine; and Katherine Pullen West and her husband Edward West and their sons, Garrett, Gil, and Nicolas, and their daughter Anna.
During her 33 years in Raleigh, Jane participated in, loved, and enjoyed all of the wonderful people and organizations Raleigh offered. Among them the Johnsonian Book Club, the Rex Hospital Guild, The Capital City Garden Club, the Four Seasons Cotillion, the Nine O’Clocks, and was sustaining member of the Junior League. She also cherished her bridge groups.
After moving to Greensboro in 2006, surrounded by family, Jane embraced her new home. She energetically participated in and looked forward to each activity. Among those special to her were the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, The Assembly, the Wednesday Literary Club, her two garden clubs, and her beloved bridge groups. Jane was former board member of the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina. Jane was a member of Christ Church in Raleigh and is a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro.
She and Lucius were former members of the Carolina Country Club and the Greensboro Country Club.
The family wishes to thank The Elms at Abbotswood for their loving, professional, and compassionate care over the last five months.
Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro was Jane’s band of Angels in her last weeks.
A service in the columbarium at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church will be held Saturday, December 22, 2008, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Following the inurnment, a reception will be held at the home of the Borden’s at 4 New Bern Square.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, or to a charity of choice.
