Loving wife, caring mother, fun-loving grandmother, faithful sister, loyal friend and woman of God, was received by her Savior on November 25, 2015. Jean Wyrick Gross, 86, was also reunited with her beloved husband and precious son. A graveside service of remembrance will be at 11 AM Monday, November 30 at Buffalo Presbyterian Church cemetery, officiated by Reverend Ronald Horgan.
Jean or Jean Faye as she was known by some was born in Guilford County to the late George and Alice Foster Wyrick. After graduation from high school she attended business college and received training in bookkeeping. She was employed with Southern Webbing Company and approximately 30 years for Your House Restaurant. As a lifetime member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church Jean found plenty of opportunities to serve Christ by serving others. She was a member of the Women’s Circle, taught Sunday school for many years, was an elder, kept the books for Caldwell House (a church sponsored center for the care of seniors) and truly enjoyed participating in the church plays and productions. A major part of Jean’s social life revolved around her church family. She and her husband, William Clinton Gross, Jr. also enjoyed socializing once a month with three other couples over dinner and games of bridge. She and Bill married in 1954 and especially enjoyed traveling extensively together. Their granddaughters brought so much joy to their lives and the girls will cherish the memories of trips with their grandparents, especially to Grove Park Inn. Any time was a good time for a family get together but especially a holiday and more so, Christmas as she truly enjoyed decorating and displaying her Santa collection. She will be remembered as a generous spirit, and an independent thinker, inclined (sometimes unsolicited) to share her opinions with others.
She is survived by her son and his wife, William “Bill” and Teresa Gross, III of McLeansville; granddaughters, Sarah White and husband Kris of Pittsburgh, PA and Kim Gross and fiancé Matt Bowers of Greensboro. In addition to her husband of 41 years, she is preceded in death by her son, George Steven “Steve” Gross and sister, Jane Cassell.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Jeans’ church at 803 16th St., Greensboro, NC 27405. Online condolences may be made at www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
