Jean Allgood Hillard, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away Wednesday, December 17th at Cone Health Wesley Long Hospital. She was 94 years old.
Jean was born in East Spencer, NC and went to school in East Spencer and Salisbury. She worked for Southern Bell/AT&T for 30+ years before retiring in 1986.
Jean was an avid reader with a special love for mysteries/thrillers. She loved the beach, butterflies, feeding the squirrels on her back porch, tending to her flowers, and was talented at needlepoint. She was a die-hard UNC Tarheels fan and was most proud when her granddaughter, Jordan, was accepted into and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill. Her husband Herb was a Duke fan, so this led to some interesting and loud games when the two teams opposed each other! Jean was a lover of all-things-purple, her favorite color.
Jean is survived by her children. Rene Mose and Tony Hillard (Sharon) and granddaughter Jordan.
Jean was pre-deceased by her parents: Eugene Allgood and Grace Heilig Allgood, husband: Herbert Hoover Hillard and sisters: Jaqueline "Jack" Allgood, Doris "Lou" Allgood and Delores Whitacre.
Jean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A beautiful, kind lady with a huge heart.
The family asks that individuals remember and honor Jean in their own special way as a public memorial service will not be held. Memorial contributions may be made to her favorite charities, the ASPCA or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
The family is under the care of Hanes Lineberry Funerals and Cremations of Greensboro, NC. Online condolences may be made at www.haneslineberry.com-see obituaries.
