Born February 25, 1922, in Williamsburg, KY to the late Carrie E. and Ancil G. Davies, Jeanne was a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church. She attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY. During WW II, Jeanne, age 22, and her younger sister, Jessilyn, traveled cross-country to Hawaii where she was a civil service employee of Hickam Field. It was there that she met her husband Bill, a Lieutenant with the 4th Marine Division. He was her beloved husband for 62 years.
Jeanne was a talented artist with a lifetime interest in drawing and painting whose work was much admired. She painted many watercolors, (her favorite medium), acrylics, oils, and at one time did pastel portraits. Her artwork is a living legacy of her creativity and her presence in our lives.
Mrs. Hester was a charter member of the Greensboro Lecture League and a member of the Greensboro Artist League. She was an avid tennis player and active member of Starmount Forest Country Club where she designed the seal/logo which is still in use today. Other hobbies included sewing, quilting and Garden Club.
Most of all, Mrs. Hester was a wonderful wife to Bill and Mother to her two children, Carol and Bill, to whom she gave unconditionally. She will live in our hearts forever. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her sister, Jessilyn Davies Sterlinske.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, William F. Hester, Jr., and his wife Jane of Greensboro; daughter, Carol Hester Ewing and her husband Don of Whispering Pines, NC; one granddaughter, Mary Hester of Boulder, Colorado; and three step-grandchildren, Donald, Shawn, and B.J. Ewing of Carthage and Rockingham, NC.
