

Deputy Chief (Ret.) Jerry Lane Cox, 75, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Wesley Long Community Hospital. Born in Guilford County to Curtis and Gracie Cox he lived the majority of his life in Greensboro, North Carolina where he is survived by his beautiful wife of 55 years Peggy Cox.
Jerry was a loving father, husband, brother, grandfather and friend to all. Jerry is survived by wife Peggy Cox, brother Curtis Craig Cox, wife (Wanda Cox) two daughters Panda Brown, husband (Dennis Brown) of Lexington, NC and Crystal Johnson, husband and daughters (Ray Johnson, Ashlyn Grace Johnson, and Lauren Rae Johnson) of Greensboro, NC.
Jerry retired from the City of Greensboro Fire Department as the Deputy Fire Chief for the Fire Prevention Bureau after 35yrs. He was named “Outstanding Fire Inspector” for 1978 by the Friendly Exchange Club. He also served as an adjunct instructor for Fire Science Courses for Guilford Technical Community College, UNC Chapel Hill, and NC State. Prior to joining the Fire Department Jerry was a member of the Marine Corp as an aviation mechanic.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Hanes- Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Location. The service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 2pm in the Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro, NC.
