

Joan Peel Johnson died peacefully in her sleep on June 7, 2025. She was born on August 16, 1931 in Williamston, NC, daughter of John R. and Anna Belle Peel who predeceased her, along with brother John Jr., sister and brother-in-law Mary and Bob Sheridan, baby Peggy Carol, and daughter-in-law Kelli. Surviving are her dear children Harris Lee, Jr., Kathy Snyder (Vernon), Elizabeth Crane (Mark), grandchildren Andrew, Nicole, Ashley, and Carla, and great granddaughters, Bella and Parker.
Joan attended East Carolina Teachers College, Hardbargers Business School and Professional Real Estate School. Joan loved to work and meet people, enjoying all the jobs she held. She was a former Real Estate Broker in New Jersey and Greensboro, a representative with Women’s Club Publishing Co., a retiree as a Market Researcher with W. L. Long Marketing in Greensboro.
In 1952, Joan traveled to London, England on the Queen Elizabeth I to marry Harris Johnson from Asheboro, who was in the Air Force, where they lived for 3 years. During their time, they traveled extensively through Europe. After returning to the states, they lived for many years in West Caldwell, NJ where their children were born, moving to Greensboro in 1977. She and Harris divorced in 1980.
Joan loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends. She was always a loving friend and ready to give a helping hand.
