

John Crandon Edwards, Sr., age 98, passed away on February 4, 2018. John was the adopted son of loving parents, Truman Chester Edwards and Barbara Smith Edwards of Arlington, Massachusetts. John was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Beatrice Merrill Edwards of Upton, Maine, and his son, John Crandon Edwards, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife Nina Barnhilll Edwards of Friends Home West.
John was a wonderful, son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who could always be counted on to do the right thing, He served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific as a Sea Bee, returning home to become an entrepreneur and owner of several successful business ventures. Never flashy or in search of the spotlight, John was a dedicated husband and family man.
John was a founding member of Southeast Baptist Church. He served for many years in many positions of responsibility and was instrumental in growth of the church.
Surviving children include Linda E Stedman, Charles T. Edwards and wife Susan, Barbara E. Eichelberger, Elizabeth E. Geddes and husband Todd, Charles M. Barnhill and wife Gwen, Tony Barnhill and wife Sharon. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, February 10th at 11:00 am at the Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel at 6000 W. Gate City Blvd. Following the service, all are invited to a reception at Friends Home West. The burial will be private for the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends Home West, Resident Assistance Fund. The family wishes to thank the staff at Friends Home West and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro for their thoughtful and attentive care of John.
