Brown Summit- Mr. John Marvin Moore, 79, entered into the presence of his Savior, on December 9, 2013. A celebration of his life will be at 1 PM, December 13, at Lebanon Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Rodney Wright followed by interment in Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive guests from 6 to 9 PM on Thursday, December 12, at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel.
John was born in Guilford County to the late Lester and Christine Craig Moore. He retired as a mechanic in the fleet maintenance division with the city of Greensboro in 1996. He was a former member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and presently a member of Lebanon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Ambassador Sunday School Class. He proudly served in the US Marine Corp from 1952-1955 and was primarily stationed in Japan.
His family will remember his kind, compassionate and gentle demeanor, his extraordinary sense of humor and his lessons in family love. As he told his children, “We only have each other.” John was a strong protective father who loved his daughters. Every year he took his family on vacations as his time with his wife, children and grandchildren was paramount to everything else. He loved to see his grandchildren laugh and smile and was always looking forward to the next family party. He and his wife Janice loved to travel and were always together. He invested in time with people and even after retiring he met his co-workers at a monthly lunch function. He loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed listening to southern gospel and bluegrass and watching NASCAR. John was most comfortable tending his yard and his beloved rose bushes or finding something to build or repair.
John is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Janice Lemmons Moore; daughters and their spouses, Diane (John Jr.) Loy of Greensboro, Debra (Barry) Blevins of High Point and Christal (Randy) Brande of Brown Summit; grandchildren, John Loy III (Bethany), Brandon Loy, Bailey and Mallory Blevins, and Christopher and Katie Brande; sister, Ann Minor of Alta Vista, VA; special sister-in-law, Karen Townson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Ozment and Faye Hicks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund, 4635 Hicone Road, Greensboro, NC 27405 or the charity of one’s choice are suggested. Online condolences may be made to www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
