

John Marvin Willett, 69, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2017. He was born on May 31, 1947 to John Dark and Florene Stone Willett. He lived in Greensboro his entire life. John attended Gateway School. John spent many happy days at Camp Dogwood, which was a Lion Club project. During his life, he worked at Industries of the Blind, as a greeter at Wal-Mart, and later at Hams Restaurant.
For most of his adult life, John resided at Bell House, an independent living home for adults with disorders. When Bell House closed, John moved to Greensboro Retirement Center, an assisted living facility. Both residencies were welcoming and provided loving care. Despite his disabilities, John was always a ray of sunshine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ronda Willett Benson. He is survived by his sister Ann Willett Dowd of Jamestown, NC and brother Edward Willett (Donna) of Lakeland, FL. and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of his life will be held at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel on Friday, February 24th, 2:00 pm with Rev. Gene Coats officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605, where John had numerous surgeries during his life, or Newlyn Street UMC, 212 E. Newlyn St., Greensboro, NC 27408.
