In 1945 she was born in Kumamoto, Japan to the late Teruki and Etsuko Araki. Kathy’s friends and family will remember her gregarious and affable nature that was accompanied by her gift of easy conversation. She had a generous spirit and treasured her family. Her creative mind afforded Kathy a natural talent for art, ceramics and music. She was an accomplished flutist and proficient player of the Koto, the national instrument of Japan. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers and ballroom dancing.
She is survived by her husband, Yoshio Tanaka of Greensboro; son, Ken Tanaka and wife Machiko of Atlantic City, NJ; a step-daughter Mimi of Richmond, VA; grandson, Ryo “Rio” Tanaka; and brother, Hidetaka Araki of Kumamoto, Japan.
