Linda was born March 8, 1940, in New Rochelle, New York, a daughter to Joseph and Flora Hanchrow. As a child her family moved to Wilson, North Carolina. Linda met and married her husband of 61 years, Howard and started a family with two beloved daughters Becky and Laurie. She was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a faithful Tar Heel for her entire life alongside Howard. They became pillars of the Greensboro community, where Linda established herself as a warm presence in both her neighborhood and the local Jewish community. Her home was always open to friends and family, where her hospitality and delicious cooking brought people together for holidays, celebrations, and ordinary days made special by her presence.
Linda was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved puzzles, sweets, and spending time with family and friends. Linda is survived by her daughter Laurie Sonshein (Ray), brother Jack Hanchrow (Gracie), son-in-law Dale Whetstone, and grandchildren Lauren Whetstone (Scott Milliken), Aaron Whetstone (Olivia), Jake and Cole Sonshein. Linda is preceded in death by her husband Howard and daughter Rebecca (Becky) Whetstone.
The service will be held at Temple Emanuel on Jefferson Road, Greensboro at 3:00 pm, Sunday, May 18th and followed by burial at the Hebrew Cemetery in High Point. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Emanuel or the Greensboro Jewish Federation.
