Lois Ann Hogan, formerly of Gauley Bridge, W.Va., died April 14, 2025, of natural causes (age withheld, for “A woman who tells her age will tell anything”). A native of Parkersburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of Carl Pickens and Mary Pickens, née Pruett. She was preceded in death by her seven siblings, Melton, Eugene, Emma, June, Harold, Carl, and Dolores, and her husband, Eugene Hogan. Surviving her are five children, Lynn Phillips (Mark), Mary Truesdell, Sarah Reinertson (Paul), Robert Michael Hogan (Joanne), and Charles Hogan (Hallie); nine grandchildren, JR, Alex, Timothy, Katherine, Holly, Anna, Sal, Gina, and Tess; and eight great-grandchildren, Hunter, Gabe, T.C., Tyler, Jaxon, Elizabeth, Lydia, and Kaitlynn. In her final years, she acquired an extended family in the neighborly love of Lettie Coble, Will Gilmore, Pam Kennedy, Sandra Martin, Jean McCauley, Linda Peterson, and Eddie Willis.
In her younger years, she worked in the secretarial pool of the Union Boiler Co. of Nitro, W.Va., and dabbled as a flight attendant for American Airlines. In mid-life, she enjoyed golfing and her involvement with the Glen Falls Garden Club. Two driving forces, though, prominently defined her life: an unwavering dedication to her faith and a fierce devotion to her husband and household. In home-making, she was a talented baker and cook, always especially proud of her jellies and cakes. In her faith, she studied scripture daily and openly shared her belief with anyone and everyone she met. She especially enjoyed playing old hymns at the piano and seemed to have a verse to sing for any situation.
A service will be held Saturday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in High Point, N.C. Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel is assisting the family.
