Lois Miller was my neighbor. 
For nearly 21 years. She was the neighbor everyone should be lucky enough to have.  Once you came into her life, she kind of tucked you under her wing and took care of you.

I don’t remember exactly,  but I am sure we met Lois and Dan probably a day or so after we moved onto Gate Post. But it was at least 3 or 4 days later that she started taking care of me. Steve, I don’t remember what you were doing at the time, but Linda I so remember that you had just left for your freshman year at Greensboro and that was traumatic for her. I think maybe this new family on the block was a good distraction for her.  Anyway our 3 children were off on their first day in a new school. As you can imagine, I had plenty to do but first went out to get the mail. I walked out the front door, it shut behand me and I was locked out of my new house. This was before cell phones, I knew no one and not even Glenn’s phone number at work.   And Lois started taking care of me that day.

Over the years we passed many of life milestones together as friends. We supported each other through good times and difficult times. Lois usually had an answer for whatever I needed to know, or she figured out the answer. We crossed stitched together, we knitted together, we painted together, we consulted with each other on decorating.  We didn’t cook together but my recipe box certainly has several of her recipes in it. I’m thinking I may use her seafood casserole for New Year’s Eve dinner.

Lois was a special friend. She was special because she was Lois.

Dinah and I have lost a good friend.  We enjoyed playing bridge with Lois and Dan for many years;  and we enjoyed her great humor and emails when she moved to Greensboro.  Our sincerest sympathies to her family and other friends.

Nothing but fond memories of Mrs. Miller.  I’ll always remember her kindness to me as I was growing up and the Miller family being close friends with ours.  She will be missed!
