

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 13, 2015, in The Main Auditorium at Well-Spring Retirement Community, with The Rev. Dr. Craven Williams officiating. The family will receive friends there following the memorial service.
Margaret was lovingly embraced by her son, Jeter Stanley Oakley, Jr. and his wife Sara Lynn Small Oakley and her long-time caregiver, Paula Lea. She was born in Statesville, NC on October 24, 1918. Margaret graduated from Statesville High School, Mitchell Junior College, and East Carolina University. She retired from Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton, NC. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Marshall Crowell and Iva Parks Crowell; brothers, Parks Crowell and Tom Crowell; a sister, Minetta Bradsher; a son, Thomas Crowell Oakley; and husbands, Jeter Stanley Oakley, Sr., James Rush Chandlee, Jr., and Alexander McAlister Worth.
Margaret is survived by sons, Jimmy Chandlee and wife Susan of Alpharetta, GA, Sandy Worth and wife Drena of Hillsborough, NC, Robert Worth and wife, Lauren of Greensboro; daughters, Pat Lowry and husband John of Rock Hill, SC, Jane Compton of Laurens, SC and Bryan Exum and husband, Larry of Athens, GA.
Margaret lived in her faith, through the joys and tragedies of life. She was currently a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, NC. Margaret pursued her passions. She was a consummate mother, always ready to give her all to her family. Margaret was a good friend many, often sharing friendships through golf. She had been a member of Statesville Country Club, Siwannoy Golf Club of Bronxville, NY, Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club, (Club Champion 1986), Linville Golf Club, Ponte Vedra Golf Club, DeBordieu Colony Club, Cape Fear Country Club, and Greensboro Country Club. Margaret played golf all over the world. Besides golf, she enjoyed needlepoint, creating many pieces for her family to cherish. She always enjoyed reading and after she sight left her she starting to listen to books on tape. Margaret gave of her time and abilities to many civic organizations. She was the first elected female Steward of the First Methodist Church in Morganton, NC.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice, however, she was particularly fond of Well-Spring, her last home, The First Methodist Church of Morganton, NC, and The North Carolina Society for the Blind.
