Margaret Tyson Marsh passed away on Saturday, August 13, at Wesley Long Community Hospital. A memorial service will be conducted at WellSpring Retirement Community in the Richardson Auditorium at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17. The family will receive friends following the service at WellSpring.
Born June 18, 1916 in Dillon, South Carolina, and raised in Georgetown, South Carolina, Margaret was one of six daughters and one son of Frank Jenion Tyson, Sr. and Susie Magnolia Peal Tyson. Margaret moved to Greensboro in 1933 to attend Woman's College and graduated with a BS degree in Music in 1938 and, in 1968, earned a Master's degree in Music from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She was a music teacher and superviser in the Greensboro public schools for over forty years. Margaret and her husband, Hal Rowe Marsh, had one daughter, Sandra Marsh Inabinet. She joined West Market Street United Methodist Church on December 17, 1939, and was a member for over 71 years. Margaret was an avid bridge player and greatly enjoyed her membership in numerous bridge groups. She was a lover of the arts and attended and supported the Greensboro arts community, including the Greensboro Symphony and Greensboro Opera. Margaret was particularly pleased to have established the Margaret Marsh Endowment Fund for the School of Music at UNC-G. Margaret will be remembered fondly by many people in Greensboro as their junior high school music teacher and choral director, as a regular attendee at concerts and lectures, as someone always up-to-the-minute on community and national affairs (and prepared to discuss her opinions), and as a gracious, witty and fashionable lady who always had a kind and encouraging word for everyone she met.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, four of her sisters, Myrtle Privette, Dale Plowden, Dorothy Bridger and Nell Jernigan, and her brother, Frank J. Tyson, Jr. Her husband, Hal (1989) and her daughter, Sandra (2007) are also predeceased. Surviving Margaret are four grandchildren, Scott Inabinet of Charleston, South Carolina, Greg Inabinet of Centreville, Virginia, David Inabinet of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Susan Ruszala, of Bonney Lake, Washington, four great grandchildren, one sister, Frankie Blalock of Hickory, North Carolina, her son-in-law, Alan Inabinet of Williamsburg, Virginia, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Margaret Marsh Endowment Fund for the School of Music, UNC-G, P.O. Box 26170, Greensboro, NC, 27420, or another charity of the donor's choice.
