Mary Donnelly Anderson

Mary Louise Donnelly Anderson, 90, a resident of Greensboro passed away on Saturday November 2, 2019. She was born in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of Herbert and Mary Alice Callahan Donnelly.

Mary was a graduate of St. Brendan’s High School. She spent most of her life in Valley Stream, NY. There she raised four children, and was a valued member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. She was a member of the Rosary Society, “Catholic Daughters”, The Legion of Mary, and a Vincentian. In 2004 she was named “Woman of the Year for Outstanding Service” by the Society of St. Vincent De Paul. She and friends volunteered at the Parrish Outreach Center, delivering food to the elderly and sick. At birthright she advocated for unwed mothers, spending hours providing counseling and coordinating community resources on their behalf. Once her children were grown, she became a registered nurse, and worked at St. Johns hospital in Queens NY. After moving to NC, she became a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in High Point, Jamestown YMCA and the Jamestown Library where she met and made many dear friends.

She was married to Kenneth A Anderson who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are, her parents; two sons, Stephen Lloyd Anderson, Brian Gerald Anderson and three brothers, Hugh Lloyd Donnelly, Jerome Donnelly and Sean Donnelly.

Surviving are her brother, Kevin Donnelly of Ridgefield, CT; her daughter, Moira T. Dailey and husband George of Jamestown, NC; son, Craig Jude Anderson and wife Donna of Long Beach, NY; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Anderson and family of Thomasville NC; grandchildren, Christopher Kenneth Anderson and wife Robin, Michael George Dailey and wife Kristin, Brian Lloyd Dailey and wife Carolyn, Mary Katherine Dailey and fiancé’ Travis Boss; great grandchildren, Anderson Lloyd Dailey and Violet Liberty Anderson and many nieces and nephews all of which she loved and held close to her heart.

A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18th at the St. Brigid Catholic Church in Westbury, NY. Interment will follow in the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, NY.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mary’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the American Cancer Society of the donor’s choice.
