Mary Bryan Griswold Smith, 67, died Sunday, November 5, 2023. A lifelong resident of Greensboro, she was the daughter of the late William Griswold (Gris) Smith and Jane Armstrong Robinson (Robin) Smith.
Mary Bryan was full of life, never met a stranger, kind beyond words, always there for her family and friends, funny, smart, sassy, generous of heart, and known for her giggle. She was infinitely positive and upbeat. In difficult times, she kept her excellent sense of humor and loved to laugh, even at her own expense. A tender soul, she loved animals of all kinds especially her dogs, cats, white mice, hamster Bernard, and guinea pigs. Mary Bryan was the family historian and proud to be named for her paternal grandmother.
She graduated from Page Senior High School and Mount Vernon College. Her career included banking and retail sales, and, after retirement, she was a generous community volunteer. Through her willingness to help others, she found purpose in her life.
She is survived by her sisters Maura Hilliard Smith Collins and Penelope (Penny) Griswold Smith May; nieces and nephews Mary Bryan (Mary B.) Roe Morgan (Kane), Maura Rimes McGinn Kirk (Jon), Bryan Hilliard Dixon May (Carolyn), and Laura Jane Elizabeth May (Ricardo Araya); great-nieces and nephews, Kennon Later, Grayson and Henry Kirk, Madeleine May, and Maisy and Aden Araya.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, 2:00-4:00 p.m., in the Well-Spring Family Living and Dining Room, 4100 Well Spring Dr., 27410.
