Mrs. Mary Gathings Cox, 78, a former resident of Greensboro passed away Sunday September 25, 2011 at Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington. Mrs. Cox was born August 26, 1933 in Greensboro the daughter of Henry Sanford and Pauline Oakes Gathings. She was a former employee with Vicks Chemical Co. and was a member of Community Baptist Church. Mary was preceded in death by her husband James Clarence Cox in 2006 and her parents.
Surviving are one daughter, Terri Cox Barfield and husband Todd of Greensboro; two sons, Don Cox of Denton, Randy Cox and wife Rives of Snow Camp; two sister-in-laws, Inez Carter and Shirley Corrine Cox both of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Jonathan Brooks, Haven Anthony and husband Andy, Remy Cox and one great grandchild, Aubrey Anthony.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Rd., Greensboro, NC 27407conducted by Pastor J.R. Gossett. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to be made to Community Baptist Church, 1330 Burnettes Chapel Rd., Greensboro, NC 27406.
