Mary Copenhaver Maclin, known affectionately to her family as Mère Mère, passed away on November 12, 2021 at the age of 93. She was born in Abingdon, VA on August 1, 1928 to the late William (Pappy) and Mary (Boly) Copenhaver.
Mary attended Mary Washington College in Fredricksburg, VA and graduated from Women’s College (UNC-Greensboro) in 1951. Mary loved her family, traveling, gardening, reading, tennis, giving gifts and sending cards for all occasions to family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her adoring daughters, Reade Rowe (Alan) and Caroline Key (Tim) and four grandchildren whom she greatly loved, Jonathan Rowe, Mary Louise Rowe, Andrew Key (Julia) and Daniel Key (Ally). In addition to her parents, her sister Betty preceded her in death.
Her life will be celebrated at 11 AM, Monday, November 15 at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to Friends Homes Guilford, 925 New Garden Road, Greensboro, NC 27410 or the charity of one’s choice.
