Mary Ruth Lilly Wall Spaugh

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at 4:00 pm, at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel, with Pastor Mitch Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 pm one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 3, 2012 at Norview Gardens Cemetery, in Norwood, NC. A memorial service of reflections will be held at Friends Home at Guilford at 3:00 pm on Thursday, December 6, 2012, in The Living Room, located on the second floor of the Woolman Building.

Born October 13, 1914, in Stokes County, to the late Samuel Allen Wall and Mary Hay Wall, Mrs. Spaugh was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Mary Ruth was a veteran of World War II serving as a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps from September 1, 1943 until February 2, 1946. She then worked as a Registered Nurse at Wesley Long Hospital and later volunteered at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Mary Ruth was a devoted wife with an even keel personality, who had a kind heart to all people. She liked to travel, was an avid reader, had a serious demeanor, but had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke. Mary Ruth was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Lilly; second husband, Arthur Spaugh; a sister, Sally M. Clifford; and her brother, Robert Wall.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Frances Wall Elliott of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Pollyanna Wall of Greensboro; nephews, Steve Elliott and wife Dianne of Greensboro and Robert Allen Wall, Jr. of Salisbury; nieces, Mary Elizabeth Wall Patton of Archdale, and Donna Gallant and husband John of Massachusetts; and many more nieces and nephews.
