Maxine Gordon Proctor, 86, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 2:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Rev. Randy Pearman officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Maxine was born on April 29, 1924 in Fieldale,VA, the daughter of Dewey C. and Mae McAlexander Gordon. Maxine enjoyed playing her guitar and singing. She performed on a local radio station at a young age. Maxine worked as a clothes buyer for Tarheel Fashions and retired from Belks and Co. She was a member of Lake Brandt Baptist Church.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Avery Proctor, who died on Thanksgiving Day in 2005 and two granddaughters, Bridgette Chandler and Darlene Pannell. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children; Nancy Glidewell and husband Don, James Roger Proctor and wife Diana, Harold E. Proctor and wife Sandy, Larry R. Proctor and wife Sherry and Linda Chandler and husband Danny; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
