

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 12 p.m. at New Light Refuge Temple Church in Madison, North Carolina with Elder Stevie Lowe officiating. The family visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Collins Cemetery in Madison, North Carolina. Mrs. Hayes will be available for viewing at Hanes Lineberry, North Elm Chapel on Friday, January 8, after 1 p.m.
Melba was born in Madison, North Carolina to the late Lawrence and Annie Welch Smith. She retired from Burlington Industries as a quality control technician. She later worked as a manager of the floral department at Kroger Grocery Store for ten years. She was a member of New Light Refuge Temple Church under the direction of former Bishop A.O. Lowe. She was a licensed missionary and a volunteer with TCT as a prayer partner.
Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Glenn Hayes and nine siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Julie Hayes Jenkins (Sylvester) of Washington, DC, Robin Hayes Turner (Allen) of Frederick, MD, Sandra Richardson and Minister Toni McCain both of Greensboro, Evangelist Tammy Hatcher (Jeffrey) of Germantown, MD; son Harvey Glenn Hayes of Hyattsville, MD; brothers, Lawrence Smith, Percy Smith, sister Peggy Lee Mack (Milton); nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
