

Melvin “Mel” John Davis passed away Friday, May 20, at his home in Greensboro, NC. He was born October 20, 1925, in Deep Run NC to the late Albert George and Velva Davis.
Mel was a U.S. Army Combat Infantryman and was wounded in Germany during WWII. He received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Service Stars for his service. Mel was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2087 and of American Legion Post #368.He was a charter member of the National WWII Museum. Mel was a long time member of Moriah United Methodist Church in Greensboro. He was an active member of the Methodist Men and the Wednesday Bible Study. He loved to travel and was an avid fisherman and camper.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce P. Davis, daughter Melette D. Honeycutt and her husband Scott of Maiden NC, son Ronnie Jay Davis of Charlotte NC and granddaughter Stephanie Honeycutt. He is also survived by his niece Catherine Madden Smith, her sons Jason, A.J. and Cameron Smith of Chilhowie VA, niece Linda D. Jennings of Yorktown VA, and her daughter and son-in-law Drs. Kimberly N. and Brett Marcia of Erie PA.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 pm at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home; N. Elm Street. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011 at Moriah United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm in Virgilina Cemetery at the family plot in Virgilina, VA.
