

Mr. Michael Edward Austin, 58, a resident of High Point died peacefully Thursday December 6, 2012 at his residence after a period of declining health. Michael was born March 25, 1954 in Washington, D.C. the son of Hampton Lambert Austin and Mary Catherine Dandelet Austin. Before his health began to decline he worked in the shipping and receiving department at R.F. Micro Devices. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rebecca Austin Intravaia.
Mike grew up in Winter Park and Satellite Beach, Florida and attended Brevard Community College. He relocated to Greensboro in 1977 where he graduated from Guilford Technical College with studies in electrical science. He began his career at Modern Metals and worked for 20 years prior to eventually retiring from R.F.Micro Devices.
Mike is remembered by all for his compassion, kindness and love of animals. He was a champion wrestler at Satellite High School in Florida and an enthusiastic arm-chair coach for the Washington Redskins and North Carolina Tar Heels.
Surviving are his parents of Jamestown; two sisters, Cindy Austin Michalowski of Sparta, NJ, Kathleen Austin Lawrence and husband Terry of Greensboro and two brothers, Philip Austin and wife Kelly of High Point and Thomas Keith Austin of High Point.
A Funeral Mass will be said Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4145 Johnson St., High Point, NC 27265 officiated by Father Vincent E. Smith, O.S.F.S. Memorial donations should be sent in lieu of flowers to Pennybyrn at Maryfield Residential Care Fund, 109 Penny Road, High Point, NC 27260
