Michael was born in Whiteville, NC on December 13, 1943, the son of Sidney S. Holt and Miriam “Mike” Gault Holt. He graduated from Christ School in Arden, NC in 1962, from Guilford College with a BS in Physics in 1969, and from Fairleigh Dickinson College with an MS in Electrical Engineering in 1976. In December 1966 he married Catherine Margaret McConnell.
Michael served first in the Coast Guard and then in the Navy Reserve for over 20 years. He had a career with Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent, and IBM. He was active with the Boy Scouts for many years, twice Scoutmaster of Troop 368 in Greensboro. He was heavily involved with the YMCA Outdoor Center and the transition to Camp Weaver, serving on the board of directors.
He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Catherine, brother Donnell A. Holt (Connie), 4 children, James Holt, Joel Holt (Kelly), Elizabeth Davidson (Ralph), and David Holt (Traia), 13 grandchildren and step grandchildren.
There will be a private burial at Green Hill Cemetery. Funeral service will be at Alamance Presbyterian Church, at 3:00PM on Friday October 3rd.
