

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry, 515 N. Elm St. Greensboro, NC. A service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, 2714 W. Market St. Greensboro, NC.
Born in Greensboro, Nancy was the daughter of the late Boyd Ernest and Beulah Scott Bell. She graduated from Greensboro high school and worked for the state of North Carolina. Nancy began her career with the state working for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She went on to work for North Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation services as well as the Greensboro, North Carolina Parole office.
Nancy was a life-long and active member of Peace Church, faithfully serving wherever needed. She and her husband, Roger, were committed to caring for others and spent much of their retirement picking up, sorting, and delivering produce, bread, and doughnuts from local markets to Urban Ministries and to those in need.
Nancy was born to be a mother and grandmother. She loved and adored her boys, Dick, Jeff, Philip, and Kemp and delighted in their lives. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was her happiest when caring for them.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by husbands, Roger Murphy Thompson, and Richard L. Gilbert, Sr. (her children’s father); her sisters, Mary Kathryn Farmer and her husband A.C., Barbara Jean Cargal, and brothers, David Ira Bell and James Boyd Bell.
Nancy is survived by her sons and their spouses, Richard L. and Mary Thomas Gilbert, Jr., Jeffrey Scott and Katherine Gilbert, Philip Andrew and Joanne Gilbert, Duane Kemp Gilbert and wife, Dr. Kelly Mitchell; grandchildren, Richard L. Gilbert, III, Tanner Levi Gilbert, Maxton Thomas Gilbert, Callison Scott Gilbert, Hannah Jane Gilbert, Noah Jeffrey Gilbert, Emma Scott Gilbert, Virginia Grace Gilbert, Seth Kemp Gilbert, Blake Christian Gilbert, and Mitch Warren Gilbert; sister, Phyllis Ann Goforth; sisters in law, Barbara Bell, Rosemary Bell, Ruth Thompson, and Pat Gunn; brothers in law, R.C. Thompson, James Gunn, and Guilford Cargal, his wife, Sue; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.
