Nelson Kelly, 93, of High Point, NC passed away on Monday July 7, 2025. He was born in Mt. Olive, NC and attended public schools there. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Upon his return home from his service, he attended Campbell College and Wake Forest College.
He married Rose Marie Phillips on February 17, 1957. Shortly thereafter, the couple relocated to Greensboro, NC and started their family with son Steve and daughter Susan.
Nelson resided in Greensboro for 61 years, where he was employed by the Greensboro Coliseum as Usher Supervisor and by Modern Metals Company as Human Resources Officer. Nelson was active in both St. Paul Presbyterian and Lawndale Baptist Churches in Greensboro, in addition to serving as President of the Four Seasons Civitan Club. In 2018, Nelson moved to Westchester Village Senior Apartments in High Point, NC, where he made a number of close friends.
Nelson was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Marie Phillips Kelly. He is survived by his daughter Susan Kelly Taylor and son-in-law Doug Taylor of Winston-Salem, NC, granddaughter Steph Taylor of Richmond, VA, grandson Brian Taylor of Raleigh, NC, son Steve Kelly and daughter-in-law Beth Kelly of Tallahassee, FL and granddaughter Marin Kelly of Orlando, FL.
A graveside celebration of life service for Nelson will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 26 at Westminster Gardens Cemetery, 3601 Whitehurst Road, Greensboro, NC 27410. Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel is assisting the family.
