February 25, 1965 – June 7, 2022
Parke Green, 57, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.
Parke was born in Washington, DC, and grew up in Baltimore, MD, the son of William Richard Green and Janet Jones Green.
Parke died suddenly on Tuesday evening June 7th, from a wasp sting while in the garden of his home. His wife Nina and their three daughters were with him. Greensboro EMS were on the scene within moments but despite heroic efforts they were unable to save him.
Parke worked in the Eye Care Management industry for over 25 years, including at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Nidek Inc., and in recent years as Managing Director of Ocular Imaging Research and Reading Center of Sunnyvale California. During his career he supported wide ranging ophthalmic research and was a co-author of several published studies and papers, including in the Journal of Refractive Surgery, The American Journal of Ophthalmology, and Eye Contact Lens.
He was kind and compassionate and treated all he met with equal courtesy. He is remembered by his many friends and colleagues for his lifelong loyalty, deep affection, love of hunting and fishing, and of dogs. His wonderful sense of humor endeared him to all. Parke was an extraordinary raconteur and storyteller, a person whose big heart and fierce love for his family gave strength to those around him.
Parke was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Richard Green of Johns Hopkins Medical School, where Parke spent many summers working in the lab for his dad.
He will be remembered and cherished forever by his devoted wife Nina Goldberg Green, his beautiful daughters Chloe, Aspen and Willow, and his mother Janet Green and brother Gordon N. Green of Sarasota Fl and his daughter Whitney Green. His parents-in-law, Larry and Jillian Goldberg, of Cary NC, his brother- and sister-in-law Rafael and Ashlyn Goldberg and his nephews Julian and Solomon Goldberg of Durham NC and Ashlyn’s parents Paul and Paula Woolley of Cary, deeply mourn his untimely and tragic death.
Parke will be cremated and there will be a private ceremony for immediate family. A memorial of life for Parke will be announced in the fall.
