Patricia Stroud Blythe passed away on September 28, 2025. She was born on December 7, 1936 to the late Walter Rex and Dessie Valentine Stroud in North Wilkesboro, NC. Her family later moved to Morganton, where she graduated from Morganton High School. Pat continued her education, attending Women’s College in Greensboro. She remained in Greensboro after college. She met her husband, Sam Blythe, while working for Wachovia Bank. They married in 1967 and Pat gained an instant family, with Sam’s daughters, Nancy and Julie. Pat and Sam were happily married for over 50 years. Pat packed up and moved as Sam’s banking career took the family from Charlotte, to Asheville, Greensboro, and finally to Winston-Salem. She worked part-time for the accounting firm Strand, Skees, Jones & Company as she moved from city to city. Pat and Sam found a Presbyterian church to join wherever they lived. She was always actively involved and served the various churches in numerous roles. Pat and Sam were most recently members of Highland Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem before moving to Greensboro in 2019 to be closer to family.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by Sam in 2020 and her brother Ronald Stroud (Jean). She is survived by her daughters Nancy Irish and Julie Wade (Homer) and brother John Stroud (Judy), along with her nephew and niece John and Ellen Stroud. Also surviving are her grandchildren Blythe Irish (Kevin Tully), Alex Irish, Sam Wade, Jon Wade (Alex), and Tolan Wade and great-grandsons, Nolan and Ellis Wade.
A service will be held for the family in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church
Greensboro. The family would like to thank the staff of The Elms at Abbotswood at Irving Park for the loving care they gave to Pat over the past five years. The family is also appreciative of the comfort and care shown by the Hospice staff of Authoracare during the last year.
Memorials may be made to Authoracare, 2504 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405 or to the Forsyth Backpack Program, 380-H Knollwood St., Box 402, Winston-Salem, NC.
