Brownie was born September 4, 1921 in Duplin County, NC, the son of Spyrus Brown and Ethel Whaley Brown.
Brownie was a graduate of Duplin County High School before entering the US Army/Air Corp during World War II, serving as Supply Sergeant in India. He was later employed by Coca Cola in numerous sales positions and then retired from J.C. Penney’s with 10 years of service. Brownie enjoyed woodworking so much that he started the Special Touch Frame Shop where he also sold local prints on Yanceyville Street. As he never met a stranger, the frame shop was a natural fit for him. His loving, giving and caring personality ensured his success. While not at work, Brownie enjoyed camping in his motor home, fishing, gardening and traveling with his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Cole Brown.
Brownie was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and all of his siblings.
Surviving are his daughter, Deborah Beers (Lee Beers); grandson, Jason Ritter (Beth); great granddaughter, Taylor Ritter.
The family requests with gratitude that memorials be made to Rankin Baptist Church, 3317 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
