The family will receive friends and loved ones, to celebrate Ray’s life, on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407.
Raymond was born in Danville, Virginia on February 26, 1962. He was a skilled Automotive Upholster, a Jack-of-all-Trades and a master of many of them. Raymond was a huge NASCAR fan and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Raymond was more than just an amazing father to his own children, he was a father to every one of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, raising them as if they were his own. PawPaw means so much more than just “grandfather” to everyone who called him that. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who was loved by so many and will be missed by all who knew him. Raymond was preceded in death by his mother, Shelby Toler Maxey.
Those left to cherish his memory include his adoring wife, Sandra “Sandy” Hanson Maxey; father, Raymond Eldridge Maxey, Sr.; children, Raymond Eldridge Maxey, III (Cindy), Melissa Maxey and Greg Tomlin; grandchildren, Gregory Tomlin (Krista), Olivia Tomlin, Jordan McRae and Jonathan Tomlin; great-grandchildren, Audrey Tomlin and Rome McRae; siblings, Cynthia Allen (Ricky), Johnny Maxey (Lisa), Richard Maxey (Lynn), Carol Stanley (Steve) and Debbie Coley; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
