

Richard DeWayne Dickerson, a humorous and beloved man, passed away at home on January 23, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on December 14, 1946, in Richmond, Virginia, Richard was the son of Donald Dodd Dickerson, Jr. and Norma Tyler Dickerson.
A proud US Army veteran, Richard graduated from Virginia Tech and went on to become a speaker and sales trainer for The Brooks Group for over 18 years. His passion for cars was well known, as he enjoyed spending time with fellow enthusiasts at car shows all over the country and collecting 1:18 scale die cast model cars. Richard's collection included over 400 models, with red being his favorite color. Additionally, he had a fondness for collecting Department 56 Christmas Villages, which he lovingly displayed each year. Richard had a love for music. He learned to play the trumpet at an early age and continued his passion through high school and college.
He also played hand bells with the Carillon Ringers at Christ United Methodist Church taking him on a journey to play at the White House during the Reagan Administration.
Richard was married to the love of his life, Wendy, for 29 years. They never had children but wound up having the sweetest 4 legged baby named Sadie,that melted Richard’s heart.
Richard is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Wendy Brinkley Dickerson of Greensboro, as well as his sisters, Barbara Briggs and Debbie VanBuren, both residing in Richmond, Virginia, and his nieces Kimberly Briggs, of Arlington, Virginia, Christina Briggs of San Francisco, CA and nephew Roger Briggs of Charlotte, NC
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 6, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Service, located at 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Wendy would like to express her sincerest thanks to Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care of Richard during his last days battling his fight with Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's disease. She will be forever grateful for the love and support she received from all her wonderful neighbors and friends.
Richard will be remembered for his humor, passion and the love he shared with his family and friends.
