

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 21, at 2 pm, at Southeast Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Stamper and Rev. Chris Phelps officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday July 20, from 6 to 8 pm at Hanes-Lineberry, North Elm Street Chapel, and other times at her residence.
A native of Greensboro, NC she was the daughter of the late Blanche and Lacy Moffitt. She had retired from the Greensboro Public Schools after 40 years of service. At the time of her retirement, she was the Secretary to the Superintendent and the Recording Secretary for the Greensboro City Board of Education.
She was a charter member of Southeast Baptist Church where prior to her illness she was a choir member, Sunday School teacher and served on many committees. She loved her BYKOTA Sunday School Class and church who so faithfully ministered to her and family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James “Bud” H. Cox; in addition to her parents and brother, Herman Welford Moffitt.
She is survived by two daughters: Diane C. Buys of Charlotte, Bonnie C. O’Leary of the home; brother, Roger A. Moffitt and wife, Barbara, of Greensboro; six grandchildren: Stacie D. Stamper and husband Mike, of North Wilkesboro; Scott D. Buys and wife, Kelly of Charlotte; Jim A. O’Leary and wife, Denise of Arizona; Patrick A. O’Leary and wife Stephanie of Arizona; Mary Kathryn (Katie) O’Leary of Winston Salem; Kristin M. O’Leary of Arizona; four great grandchildren: Sullivan Buys of Charlotte, Kayla O’Leary of Arizona, Ryan and Kyle O’Leary, of Arizona, and soon to arrive baby girl Stamper of North Wilkesboro. Two step great grandchildren: Chase and Mackenzie Johnson of Arizona. Nephews: Bryan Moffitt and wife LeAnn of Candler, NC, Jerry Moffitt and wife Cindy of Texas, Stephen Moffitt of Texas, and Steve Hart and wife Jan of Greensboro. Nieces: Donna Peterson of Greensboro and Janice McGlothin of Texas.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Paterson along with all of the great Doctors and staff at Guilford Medical Associates for the exceptionally wonderful care they have given Ruth. They would also like to thank all the staff on the 600 hall at Clapp’s for their kind and loving care, and the continuous care of her church family.
