

Saliba Isa Hanhan, 83, peacefully passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 10, at Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, 800 Westridge Road. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 West Gate City Boulevard.
Born April 18th, 1940, in Lidh, Palestine, he was the first born to the Isa Saliba and Nasifeh Kishek Hanhan.
Saliba graced our lives with his comforting smile and unforgettable conversations. He was an extraordinary beacon of wisdom who dedicated himself to his family and served his community, with love.
He obtained a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry at the American University in Beirut, Lebanon before moving to the United States to teach at Miami University in Ohio.
He later worked at Corning Glass in upstate New York before moving to Greensboro in the mid-1970s. He opened Jerusalem Market in 1989, pioneering the international food market in the Triad area. His passion for science, cooking, eating, gardening, and story-telling sparked inspiration among his family and friends.
Saliba is preceded in death by his parents Isa and Nasifeh Hanhan; brother Fouad Hanhan, and brother-in-law Aziz Hanna.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Deborah Hodgin Hanhan, and their children Easa Saliba William Hanhan (Georgi), Emily Ann Nasifeh Hanhan, and Omar Saliba Robert Hanhan (Leslie); his siblings Violet Hanna, Nabil Hanhan (Racha), Victor Hanhan (Sana), Ida Salib (Jean), Nabila Brown (Harvey), Mary Zeitling (Albert), Jamal, and Susie Fenger (Rasmus), and his nieces and nephews including Eddie, Tammy, Issa, Maher, Issa, Nicole, Isa, Natasha, Marwan, Yasmeen, Maesa, Marcella, Ghassan, Rami, Nancy, Walid, Michael, Ashley, Lily, Nicholas, Alexander, and Christopher.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 9, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel.
