

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 5, 2010, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery, on Liberty Road, in Greensboro.
Born in Guilford County, to the late Roy and Julia Fields, Sammie was of the Christian faith. He served in the United States Marine Corps. during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post #53. He was a truck driver for Mail Contractors of America (MCA) and previously drove for Old Dominion. He enjoyed old westerns and was a big fan of NASCAR. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Sammie was preceded in death by a son, Sammie Fields, Jr.; brothers, J.C. Fields and Clark Fields; and a granddaughter.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 5 years, Sandra Abbott Fields of the home; daughters, Linda Burke and husband John, Brenda Long and husband Eddie, all of Greensboro, and Wendy Morgan and husband John of Randleman; son, Wayne Fields of Greensboro; sisters, Bessie Keel and husband Earl of Greensboro and Helen Daniel of Pleasant Garden; 8 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Thursday evening, March 4, 2010, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel, and other time at the residence.
