Mrs. Albright was born on February 11, 1928, in Franklinton, NC to L.H. and Mary Allison. Her early childhood years were in Franklinton and Durham before relocating to Greensboro. Sarah graduated from Greensboro Senior High, then attended Women’s College (now UNC Greensboro), ultimately transferring to and graduating from William & Mary in 1949, majoring in biology.
Sarah moved to Charlotte and was a medical technologist for an allergist. She lived with her college best friend, Margaret, and began dating two Albright brothers, Joe and Mack, whom she had known since being in Joe’s high school homeroom class. She married Joseph L. Albright, Sr., on November 26, 1955, and they made Greensboro their home on Albright Drive.
After her youngest started school, she began working at Crutchfield-Browning drugstore doing administrative work and later was the bookkeeper and inventory manager at Ginette’s/Libby’s women’s clothing stores. She was also the silent organizational partner assisting Joe in his duties as secretary/treasurer of Gate City Kiwanis Club, where they were able to travel to meetings and conventions worldwide. She was a community volunteer serving in local PTAs and at Moses Cone Hospital. She loved to spend time around a card table, whether with her many bridge friends or with her family playing rummy. She would almost always finish a crossword puzzle before everyone in the house and had a keen eye for jigsaw puzzles. She also loved to work outdoors and bring her garden inside with beautiful flower arrangements. Of all the things she did and occupations she had in life, she maintained that her greatest job was as a mother and later grandmother. She delighted in family gatherings and was energized by seeing the joy each person brought, likely not realizing that the source of their joy was often the intense understated love and genuine curiosity she instilled everywhere she went.
She is survived by her children Allison Albright, Sally Greene of Charlotte, NC, and Jim Albright (Kelly) and grandchildren Dr. Leigh Allen (Matt) of Lakewood, CO, Lindsay Albright (Arielle) of Los Angeles, CA, Mary Madison Durst (Nick) of New York, NY, Anna Albright of Denver, CO, Will Albright (Kailyn) of London, England, Sarah Albright, and Jack Albright of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving is her nephew John Albright (Melanie). She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Lindsay Albright, Sr., son Dr. Joseph Lindsay Albright, Jr., son-in-law John W. Greene, Jr., her brother-in-law J. Mack Albright (Margaret) and their son, Mack Albright.
