Sarah “Lynn” Wellons, 74, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024, after a long term illness. Born December 31, 1949, in Greensboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lee Douglas Wellons and Alice Finley Wellons.
Lynn had a varied career including legal secretary, office manager, and teacher. She was a passionate fan of Tar Heel sports. She was also an accomplished pianist and violinist and was a Masterworks season ticket holder for the Greensboro Symphony for many years.
Lynn was very thoughtful, sending cards for every occasion and holiday with a personal note. She enjoyed gift giving, hosting sleepovers with her nieces, and letting them dress up in her old clothes, watching movies and sometimes sneaking in a PG-13. She would let them eat all the junk food their parents wouldn’t let them have. When her nieces started having children, Lynn came up with the idea to give Christmas ornaments that the children could enjoy for years to come. Lynn was a fun-loving and doting aunt; and her nieces will always treasure their time together with her.
Lynn's presence was a beacon of warmth and care for everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her innate ability to transform friends into family was a testament to her generous spirit. Whether meticulously planning outings or simply being present, Lynn poured her heart into every moment shared with loved ones. I vividly recall seeing Lynn and Richard most recently at my brother’s funeral this past June, where their early arrival and comforting presence embodied their unwavering support for our family. Her joy in connecting with people was infectious, ensuring even the smallest gatherings brimmed with positivity and good energy. Lynn has been a cherished gift in my life from a young age, and I find solace knowing our paths will cross again. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who were privileged to be part of her radiant circle.
Those left to remember her fondly is her husband, Richard Hoffman; sisters, Diana Wellons Butner, Susan Wellons Campbell (Jimmie}; brother Brock Wellons(Emelyne); nieces, Amy Strange (Mike), Ashley Ward (Jay), Brittany Fuller (Pete), Allison Langhorne (Wil) and nephew Chess Wellons.
A small family gathering will be held from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27 at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro.
Memorial contributions in Lynn’s memory may be sent to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, stjude.org or to the charity of one's choice.
