

He was a graduate of the Class of 1954 from Mingo High School near Dunn. Shelton retired from the Grocery Industry after 45 years of service. He started out while in high school as a bag boy with the Colonial/Big Star grocery company and when he retired he was District Manager of the triad area. He served in the North Carolina National Guard. Shelton was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
On April 7, 1957 he was married to the love of his life, the former Patsy Strickland who survives of the home. Surviving in addition to his wife Patsy are, his daughter, Donna W. Marion and husband Chuck of Greensboro; his son, Terry West and wife Grace of New Bern; three grandchildren, Lauren M. Roach and husband Matthew of High Point, Trip Marion of Greensboro, Courtney West of New Bern; his sister, Daisy W. Chase and husband Gerry of Decherd, TN; several nieces and nephews and his soon to be born 1st great grandchild that Shelton was so looking forward to.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by Pastor Steven Walsh. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank the staff at Camden Place and the Pinecroft-Sedgefield Fire Department for all of their help and care given to Shelton.
