Born in the Bronx on August 7, 1943 to Simon and Cecelia (nee Grove) Mostofsky, Steve faced challenges early, as his father died days after D-Day while serving as a medic in the U.S. Navy. While Steve did not have an opportunity to know his father, he was raised by many loving relatives including his aunts Lily and Stella and later by his future in-laws Gershen and Rita Levine.
His life changed immeasurably when he met his adored wife Marion through friends at a high school party on a night lit by a full moon. Their partnership lasted 61 years.
They moved to Long Island where they raised Stewart, Jason, and Allison while Steve engaged in his career in the leg wear business, working for Ashton Hosiery. He served in various roles at leg wear companies, ultimately moving to Greensboro in 1989.
Late in his career, Steve started his company TTI Global Resources with his three admired partners Mark, Tongchai and Shinji. As CEO, he built this internationally renowned sock and hosiery sourcing company, working with the likes of many major brands. In the early years of the company, he was graced to have his daughter Allison Murphy Boiar and son Jason join as partners. His son Stewart followed in the footsteps of his namesake Simon Mostofsky into the medical profession as a pediatric neurologist and research scientist at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University.
Steve was a major supporter of many political and Jewish causes including the March of the Living, participating a few years ago and making it possible for his children, grandchildren, and many others to have this important life experience. He served as a proud member of the North Carolina Holocaust Council. His list of life accomplishments is long, and he personified living a life of meaning.
His most prized achievement was, above all, his family. This includes the many relationships he built through business and community. Nothing gave him more "nakhes" (deep joy) than a day spent with his grandchildren - Gillian, Harrison, Seth, Justin, Holden and Olivier. He also greatly loved his daughters-in-law Pamela and Britt, and son-in-law Ed. He made a conscious effort to lovingly support the family that brought so much to his heart.
A funeral service for Stephen will be held Sunday, August 27, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Temple Emanuel, 1129 Jefferson Rd, Greensboro, NC. Interment will follow in the Greensboro Hebrew Cemetery.
