Susan Zaleon, loving wife to Philip Zaleon for nearly 58 years, loving mother to their children Lisa and David, and an especially loving grandmother to her grandchild LillyAnna, died on June 29, 2022. Her family misses and loves her beyond words.
Born in New York, NY to Charles and Lillian Feit Aaronson on September 7, 1944 she grew up in NYC and then attended SUNY Buffalo and earned her B.S. in Education, and met her husband. The couple moved to Phil’s hometown, Syracuse, NY, after her graduation where she taught in the Syracuse City Schools until their children were born. Susan received her Masters in Counseling and Guidance from Syracuse University in 1978.
In 1980 the family moved to Greensboro where Susan began a long career at B’nai Shalom Day School. She was cherished by generations of students and faculty alike as “Mrs. Z.” As a teacher, administrator, counselor, mentor and friend to many, Mrs. Z’s quiet, thoughtful, depth of presence was always there to be relied upon. She was sweet, kind, genteel, poised, and the epitome of a lady. Her students treasured their relationships with her.
She always expected, encouraged, and supported her students to strive to do their very best. They knew she was above all else fair and loving. Her smooth and calming tone of voice when reading to her students will be remembered as a favorite classroom experience with Mrs. Z.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Greensboro Hebrew Cemetery on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022, at 10:00 AM.
