Vernon Phillips, 87, died on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born on October 12, 1929 in Gaffney, SC, the son of the late Corbett and Daisy Phillips. He had been a resident of High Point for almost 70 years.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Bishop, son Randy Phillips; granddaughter, Kimberly Phillips Stanford; brothers, Roy, Willie and George Phillips; sisters, Nannie Smith, Odell Henderson, Dora Varner and Ruth Phillips. Surviving is his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth Duncan Phillips whom he married on May 12, 1947. Sons; Ted Phillips and wife Kathy, Jeff Phillips; grandchildren; Mark Cromer, Kevin and Brandon Phillips, Derrick and Amanda Phillips; great grandchildren, Leanna, Brian, Jordon, Tyler and Mekayla; great great grandchildren, Chandler and Connor; sister, Mae Sue Gilliam and brother, Dean Phillips.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, 2:30 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Pastors Charles Muston and Bobby Loving officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
